If you are a Doll without a name you are in the chorus and unfortunately G&D is one of the worst shows for girl chorus ever. If you are one of Adelaide's dancers then you have a couple of fun numbers. "I love you a Bushel and a Peck" and one other who's title escapes me at this late hour. You might also do Sit Down You're Rockin the Boat. You should have a lot of fun, but I don't think you'll have to stress about having too much to do. As for acting a lot, if you're an actress, every moment you are on stage you will act! I am a director and when I go to school producations, I spend my time watching the chorus--I already know what the leads are doing, I want to know whether the chorus has the guidance and skill to convince me that they are believing the action in front of them as well.

The "Dolls" are the women's chorus. They are featured throughout the show. They perform specifically as back-up singers to Adelaide in the Hot Box caberet numbers: I Love You (A Bushel and a Peck) and Take Back Your Mink. They are also featured in several of the other numbers of the show, including the dance sequence in Cuba (Havana) and Sit Down Your Rockin' The Boat (although that is dependent on the director).

Any time there are street scenes (like at the beginning of the show), the Dolls are there, wondering around. Occassionally one will have a line. There really aren't any solo parts. But it is a great way to get into the theater, especially if you haven't acted before, and it's a nice way to learn your way around. Many people have started in the chorus and ended up stars.

If you can't sing why are you auditioning for a musical? Anyway, the key to singing in Guys And Dolls is to sing in character. If you're auditioning for say Sky Masterson you need to sing the song as a smooth gambler. For, Miss Adelaide sing it as a show girl with tons of cuteness and humor (see Vivian Blain'es version of "Adelaide's Lament for an example - she was the original Miss Adelaide on Broadway and also in the 1955 film production). Get to know the characters well. See the film and as many stage productions as you can. Read the script to get your own interpretation of the character you're auditioning for. A character study will really help in get into character. Listen to the music!!!!!!! As much as possible. Know it inside and out. Get as many different versions of songs as you can and see the variation form play to play, actor to actor. The film is a good source for a New York accent. Especially for Miss Adelaide. Maybe you should meet with a dialect coach. Also, if you can't sing get a singing coach now!!! The sooner you work on your voice the better. Good luck with the audition!

if youre a lead (adelaide or that one who falls in love...forgot her name) youd have lead singing roles, other girls would probably be in the chorus scenes, or perhaps as hotbox dancers?
