Whenever I call my agent, she always says "Oh, I was just talking about you with........."(Whichever TV or theatre director, casting agent). I know she's lying and probably does it habitually with all her clients. Should I just block out her opening remarks?

Given your previous postings here and the illusion of a nineteen thirties amateur dramatics character you have painted in crude fashion, it is no wonder an agent does not take you seriously.
The business is at an all-time low and it will not recover.
There will be no resurgence of theatre, televsion and radio drama.
Five minutes ago I took a 'phone call from a name actor who has done five days work this year.
Our own agent is at his wit's end and well-known names are even calling him with 'have you anything at all?' pleas.
If you ARE an actor, which I very much doubt, you would know that it is probably time to find another career.

At the end of the day she has to say something and make it seem like she's doing her job but unless she can tell you anything solid then i would try to take anything else she says with a pinch of salt. She probably has realised that you have a talent and doesn't want to lose you as a client. She's watching her own back, but I'm sure she is still trying for you because if you make money then so does she. Hang on in there, there could be something just around the corner. Good Luck x

The type of ambiguity you are tolerating from this individual is doing a number on your self-esteem, whether you know it or not. It is not only time to change agents, it is time to find someone you trust, also. Money is involved, and unless you get a much more mature reception, make sure it isn't yours.

Everybody has something as an opening remark to break ice in a conversation. Your agent is habituated to her "Oh, I was .........." opening remark. Just ignore it.

You could do this or have some fun with her and the world and treat it as truth and ask her "What did he say?" Can we get an appointment with him? Call him now. or whatever your fun buttons suggest. If you do it each time she says this do you think she'll give up? Or put it in your electronic or paper notebook the next time. Each meeting rev up the truth value. Say I tried to call so and so just before I came.

Are we smiling yet?

Does she get you auditions and how many? If you aren't going out very often, look for a new agent.
