Someone who has served in the military.
I appreciate our veterans very much. My father and grandfather both served in wars.
However, this doesn't "need to come from the heart" as, again, a veteran is simply someone who has served in the military.

SHE is right. One needn't have served during wartime to be a veteran. That person would be called a "war veteran."

A female or Male that serves our country in the military during war time or peace time to keep the peace and our country free.

I was a veteran Female and a WAC and proud of it . My son came home one day crying he was 6 years old stating some kid said your mom wears Army boots I said why are you crying its true. You should be proud. I said .You never have to worry Your momma can always take care of you. Most Momma's can't say that. I could deal with anything because of being in the military

I believe a veteran is someone who has pride & love of country, who left their loved ones behind & put their lives on hold to go & fight for the freedom & safety of their country or those who are oppressed in another country. I believe a veteran is not only those who have risked their lives on the front lines, but those who joined knowing that they may be sent away at any moment & still have the integrity & pride to want to protect the freedoms & safety that many before them have died to get & keep. Those who KNOW that freedom is NOT free!!! Those who knowingly put their lives on the line for ALL OF US, asking nothing in return but DESERVING our THANKS & GRATITUDE for their sacrifices.......
I for one will be ETERNILY GRATEFUL to the MANY who have sacrificed EVERYTHING for me & my family. I am Thankful to the mothers, fathers, wives, husbands, brothers, sisters & children who have made great sacrifices for me & my family as well....
