my ignition will not turn it is stuck in lock position. i have already experienced the key getting stuck and not releasing, that was a transmission relay. its been fixed this is not the same deal. this time the ignition just will not turn and the steering wheel is locked as well as the igniton. i need to start the car. what do i do for a temporary fix? without hot wiring? i thought about crossing the starter to get it to start. if i do this will the steering wheel unlock? or will i be stuck with a running car that wont move? also i am not sure where the starter is if it will work.

THIS HAPPENED TO ME on my 83 toyota celica. i ended up haveing to hot wire it as a temperary fix. i dont know how old your car is..but here is what happened to mine. there were little pins in the key switch mechanism that were wearing out..the small amounts of "metalic dust" eventually clogged these pins so that they were hard to move. they are normally spring loaded but eventually they had a hard time moving...i had to wiggle and jiggle the key at first...but it eventually got so bad that it wouldnt work. it was like the key i had wasnt made for that ignition switch anymore. anyway, i went to the wrecking yard...got a new switch and new door locks (so i could keep only one key for everything). i hope this helps...if it doesnt...you might tell specificly what kind and year of car it is. ALSO, that WD40 idea that was already mensioned is what i did for about a week till it just got too bad.

the ignition is worn out inside replaced lots when i was at ford. if you have too many keys on your key ring the hanging keys sway and it wears out the inside. You have to have it drilled out and a new lock cylinder installed in it. should be done at a shop. If you drill to far and it grabs and turns with the drill bit it will break the ignition switch on the back side. ford replaced them under warranty for a bit . But as i said the extra weight of the keys was the problem. good luck .

Shift down and back up putting it in park. Slowly move and giggle the steering wheel left and then right while turning the key in the ignition. Try not to panic because this will usually work. If it doesn't, get out your spare key and try all of the steps again. This worked like magic for me last time. I was really freaking! Best of luck to you!!!

Pull downward and to the left on your steering wheel as you simultaneously put slight pressure on the ignition. I assume you are already in park. Also, if the battery is dead, the steering wheel may lock and the key might be stuck. But most likely you just need to jiggle the steering a little bit.

This happans alot on foeign cars due to the steering wheel lock. Put your key in and jiggle the steering wheel back and forth back and forth while attempting to turn the key, eventually it will catch and the car will start. Also, make sure your car is full in park while attempting, do this my jiggling the shifter.

keep turning the steering wheel back and forth, i know it is locked, but that is why the ignition is locked, so if you just jeep jiggling it back and forth the ignition will unlock, and so will the steering wheel.
