I have a Dell Dimension 8300 and it is only a year and a half old. For some reason it won't turn on. The light that is green when it is on (and orange when it's off) is blinking orange. It won't let me do anything. I try to unplug it and the light still stays on. For some reason it's been doing this alot lately and it usually takes a few days for it to "feel better" if we just leave it alone, however, I have to use it now. Any sort of help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

check if there is any internal burning of components. If the motherboard or any subordinate board is burnt, the system goes into lockdown. If you find the burn, replace the part and you should be fine. You can identlfy the burn by the smell.

In case there is no burning, check all your connections and make sure they are secure and not loose. Specially the power and monitor cables. Make sure the power outlet is not overloaded with hardware.

If things still dont work, contact dell. Their after sales service is pretty decent..

Looks like you may have a power supply problem. Unplug the power in the back on your PC and wait a minute of so. Plug the power back on and try to restart it. If it doesn't boot then your power supply is probably burnt.
Another possibility is that the interior of your PC is dirty and your CPU is not getting properly cooled. Get a can of compressed air, unplug your PC, remove the side panel and spray the dust out, espicially around the CPU fan.

the green lights on the Tower, indicate power, and the flashing green lights mean the computer is thinking [ active dard drive ]

your monitor, green light means data is going to your screen
when it goes yellow, data isno longer reaching your screen.

From what you are saying, it sounds like the computer is in sleep mode.

Try a complete shut down., un plug the unit, and wait 5 minutes
Or get to a working computer, get the web sight that supports on line teck help for your make of computer, and e mail them a detailed explanation of what it is doing.
By a five minute shut down, then pulling the power plug, will allow the unit to re set itself

good luck

Turn the PC around and check all the connections the modem bus may have fallen out or be loose, or the monitor may be unplugged, check your cable too, or phone line which ever you have. Or maybe the wall outlet is no good. Try an extension cord. Good luck!

Call Dell. They will be able to help you quickly and easily diagnose the problem. It sounds like there might be a problem with the RAM in the machine. I have had this sort of problem happen before with Dell machines.

Since no one can actually see the pc it could be a billion things. It could be a faulty power supply, bad ram, a un plugged cord. Burned out componet. I suggest taking it to a best buy, compusa, or contact dell.

I agree with Duster, it sounds like it is going to sleep. I somehow made mine go to sleep one time and it wouldn't come on for weeks. One day I turned it on, hit something on the keyboard (I can't remember what, sorry) and it has been fine ever since.I think you can change that sleep mode under settings.

She made this by using a different computer obviously. And I'd call one of your parents or someone who knows well of computer to fix the other problem.

Your hard drive has failed. It will be difficult to recover your data without an expert.
