Americans seldom even hear about the rest of the world on television. We generally don't learn a second language and most of us never leave the country.

That and the fact that we have a big army makes some Republican leaders think we are more important than other countries and it is wrong.

The majority of Americans think that the President is wrong. More of us think like Carter than Bush.

I wouldn't say that we view ourselves as more important, but to be more precise more aggressive. Our country was basically started by a bunch of religious miss fits... and out of that culture we formed a country that is by no means perfect, but has sustained itself for almost 300 years... we are mere babies compared to the other countries of the world. We knew many years ago that you CANNOT let religion dictact or rule your government.. it doesn't work... you can look to other countries of the world and see prime examples of it, the Middle East being the largest... Importance is self serving and won't ever eleviate any of the worlds problems and for the most part Americans don't feel that they are any better than any other human on this planet. People who live in other countries don't know what real American life is like, just like us... what they base their opinions on is what they see and hear through the mass media... and EVERYONE should be mature enough to know you can't always believe what you see or hear on television or read in a news paper. I guess the only "importance" I would allow myself is that I can voice my thoughts and ideas without fear of prosecution and retribution, if that is importance then I guess I could be guilty. Peace.

I don't. I know many other people here and in the bigger portion of the U.S. who don't. I view any good person as just a person, including myself. We are all different, and it doesn't really matter if you are North American or Asian or anything else. Where you come from doesn't determine who you are, or how important you are in the eyes of society.
Please don't generalise.

I thought that all countries / peoples thought that they had things figured out, and were superior to other people.

In fact, I've seen a number of people from around the world post questions and answers here who KNOW that they know how Americans should do business. Talk about Arrogant!!! jeeez!

It's very unfair that you lump 300 million people into the self important category just because we have a bellicose ****** for a president.

We in the USA have a little of everything, just like anywhere else in the world.

Obama did no longer create this debt. Clinton easily decreased it, then we've been given the 8 years of GWB. It extra suitable spectacularly throughout his time era. usually from combating a somewhat unjust war and one questionably unjust war, which we will not win. extra, Obama inherited the marketplace/economic organisation failure. Bush replaced into offering many of the comparable inevitable fixes that drove us extra into debt. it somewhat is handy for the marvelous responsible this all on Obama, yet, it ignores the info. wellbeing care reform is long late. In time, it is going to act to decrease our deficit. to no longer point out the undeniable fact that it somewhat is the marvelous factor to do.

All of them don't view themselves as such. Those with visions of self-importance are not only in America.

Because we are one of the only countries in the world with commonsense, be it just a little. We don't blow ourselves and others up because they aren't the same religion. We don't rape and kill women because they show their face. We might not be mentally stable, but we are a hell of a lot better off than most of the world.

because we live in the best country in the world.

Is there any other country which attracts so many immigrants, legal and illegal, year after year?

Sure we have problems and that monkey-looking guy in the White House, but the fact that I have the freedom to post that comment (hi Mr. Cheney! just kidding!) puts me ahead of many, many other places in the world.

I dunno, though, about more IMPORTANT. We just rejoice in what we are and what we have. Hopefully, after tomorrow, it will be even better!
