If you can't be poor and happy, you can't be rich and happy. Happiness doesn't show up on your account balance.

Hi,
Why not look at it in a different way, why would being rich ensure happiness? It is probably the attitude of the person that determines happiness rather than material goods.
That being said, if you are in desperate poverty and you have not got enough to eat, nowhere to sleep, etc, then it would be very difficult to be happy.
Or look at it another way, if you crave money and power so much that it is the only thing that will make you happy, you would never be really happy ever, unless you acquired more.
All money really does is that it allows you to live more comfortably, not necessarily makes you have a better life. There is a difference. Religions and philosophy have been discussing it for thousands of years. Can I suggest that you look up an Ancient Greek philosopher callled Epicurus. You might find his viewpoint interesting.

YES and one can be rich and still be unhappy.
Happiness is a state of mind
and everyone is at a time, both, or neither.
Contentment, to the wise one, is happiness.
Even being sad, to the wise, is key to being happy,
for if one were never sad,
how could one find perspective?
And without perspective,
who could appreciate their happiness?
There is reason to believe,
that in the greater scheme of things,
one needs a certain minimum amount
of food, water, shelter, and resources
to maintain a state of happiness.
In the US, to provide oneself that amount
takes $14K / year after taxes, or $8 hour.
If you live with the folks, with a mate,
then shared expenses means less will do.
Now, if you start out with NOTHING,
naturally, you are going to do without
while you are acculimating essentials.
Other studies have shown,
that on any given day,
tribal hunting and gathering people
have more social time, and are happier
than most urban rat race workers.
We all know people who seem always sad & down,
and we know folks too, that always wear a smile.
You can pick the kind of person you are
but the attitude you adopt. Why not be happy?

The love of money is the root of all evil. I'm poor and i'm happy as hell! The only thing that can make you happy is this... Being a good person...>it's easy to be bad and an asshole, it's harder to be good. when you are a good person you will find more good people. THen you will find a mate who will love you for you and all your weird ways, and THAT is worth more than all the gold and dimonds in the universe.

That all depends on what you call “Being poor” I grew up in a time and place where no one had money but we had family. We lived and loved and never knew what being lonely was and all though we had no money, their was always something under the tree at Christmas. Poor? No we were very rich and I can’t remember a happier time.

There are times of happiness sure, but it's difficult to be happy when you are always struggling. Rich people get depressed don't they? Of course, I could solve their depression and make them happy by giving me money so that I can be happy.
