Try taking Bus No. 82 to Ponggol End.

I'm not sure if it is the best place but I love the rustic, tranquil ambiance. However, be warned there are lots of mosquitoes and there are no amenities there.

Cheers.

Pulau Ubin. Rent a bicycle and cycle around. Get back to the jetty by 6.45. Lovely sunset scene. You won't see the sun dipping though.

Sentosa Island. It's on the bus route. Here's a link to the :hot to get here" page on their website. http://www.sentosa.com.sg/useful_info/getting_to.html

They also have a light/water show in the evening that is free.
