installed new hard drive on machine that had Norton running on Windows 2000. Restore disk has Windows Me. Norton 2006 would not load on Me. Have 6 months left on Norton subscription.

Go to Cnet.com and read reviews. A free program that will work with windows me is avast or avg but for something you want to pay for read the reviews and decide for yourself. I don't know what you can do about the Norton subscription except contact the company and explain your dilemma! Good Luck!

I find Avast antivirus to be the best, not 100% sure its supported on ME but probably, as it also works on 98...
As a side note, I have worked with computers for years and have seen Windows ME to be the least reliable OS microsoft has had, and at some point you are likely to have seemingly unrepaiarable errors that crop up out of nowhere that are not your fault, just flaws in the OS I guess. If you are staying with ME you are likely to be very unhappy with it regardless of AV software. I would try to get 2000 back, or maybe XP if it ran 2000 decently. If the restore disk is that old though and the machine hasn't been upgraded much, then you may even do best to find a version of Windows 98 SE (second edition) which would probably be much more stable than ME...just a suggestion. Norton 2006 didn't do well with my ME soft ware either.
Seems Norton 2006 was more for Win XP.Still, if you can find Norton, Macafee, written for Win ME
Try some w mail to Symantic, and see what they recomend

ME can get heartburn really easily from software. Your best bet is to try a free one so if it doesn't work you don't get stuck with software you bought. Avast and AVG are both very good. I'm sorry but I can't remember the websites off hand. Search Yahoo! for the sites. You will need to download a firewall with them though. I recommend Zonealarm from zonealarm.com It's free and very good. Also you should download spyware protection. Spybot from safer-networking.org is a very good program.

Ok. First of all, go in your programs and make sure there is no anti-virus installed in your computer...If so, remove it.
Now, the best anti-virus as far as I know (so do all my computer expert buddies) is made by Grisoft. Also known as AVG and it is totally free. Make a search on Google with AVG and enjoy your new anti-virus.

its stated as Avira antivir. it somewhat works for residing house windows however the hot version after march will decelerate your laptop plenty if its an previous style. Its made by potential of a german business enterprise and its loose
