I've done help desk, and it's horrible. It's stressful, you get abused, and the other IT people don't take you seriously. Most IT people think that getting off of a help desk is a promotion, even if it means you shovel #^%#$%!! instead of take phone calls. After a year of phones, I heard phones ringing in my sleep.

Generally speaking, 90% of the help desk questionsare the same questions over and over. You can train a newbie to answer them pretty quickly. Answering mostly simply questions with senior IT staff simply doesn't make financial sense, nor is it a good use of talent.

Having said that, when I get a newbie teach (especially one w/ language issues) I suffer just like everyone else.
