Working hard is not a good idea. You could be fired and charged with sexual harassment. Unless you're a prostitute or pornstar.

Working smart means you find a way to get the same amount done without working harder. Sort of like a shortcut which doesn't have negative effects. For example, if you have to go across the office numerous times a day to deliver something to numerous people. As long as it is within your deadline, only make one trip that takes you past everyone instead of making numerous trips.

That is an old bunch of management drivel that is an excuse for giving a worker more work than they can be expected to finish in a day. The only people that I ever heard say it, were people that could not themselves do the task even if you put a gun to their heads.

I agree with lawrence M. You HAVE to do both.

You will be much more productive if you are doing both.
