The Happiness..My partner was already by nature a happy person. I have had a couple of failed relationships where I tried to make them happy. It didn't work and I became frustrated, feeling that I was giving and that they didn't care. My current Love of 14 years was happy and appreciates all that I do to keep her that way. It is a lot of little things, and I feel good about finding new ways and maintaining the ones that work. It has been 14 years and I am Happy too.

The feeling of happiness and total bliss stems from our service to others, and enjoying / embracing life as we do so. We want, many times, to help other people, to experience that warm connection of life through emotion and uplifting inspiration. Other times, we love to be around those who are happy. Those who are happy have a great and luminous energy about them - this is why when you walk into a room and there is a positive-thinking/happy person there, you can literally feel it, feel this energy. It is happiness we are attracted to more of course. We want to be loved most of all, but if we truly come to know who we are first, which immediately reveals to us the Source of all Happiness, good things (mysteriously) start to happen to us. We meet that special someone, we get offered promotions at work, we complete homework / study more effectively: sychronicity. If you are happy with yourself, you radiate energy (people can actually train themselves to physically see this energy - often called qi or chi or an aura - all the same thing) and this energy (Love) makes others around you think more clearly, feel physically better, etc. It is truly wonderful. :)

I feel differently then the previous answers. I feel as though everyone can fake happy. The happiness of a person is so cliche. It's not only boring, but it's obvious. Whereas the sadness of a person brings mystery. If you know what disappoints or saddens someone then you basically know them. We only have a few things that sadden us. Those things show who we really are.

I'm always more attracted to happy and contented people. There is so much to learn from them. Yet...there is much to be gained from a life of service to others. So there is also a level of attraction to those in need. But need is not the same as sadness.

This is a very interesting question and you have received very interesting answers as well.
The following is from Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy.
"Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way."
I think this quote can be applied to individuals as well. It may be easier and more comfortable to be around happy people who are all happy for the same reasons, but perhaps the sad people are more interesting, mysterious.

Sadness.
There are no emotions that are more powerful than negative ones.
Happiness is a fool's optimism. The only people who can enjoy their own happiness are those that choose to ignore all the suffering in the world.

Depends if you brought a book in to read and you'd want the light on to read by (happy person to talk to about it) orrr if you come without any forethought into a dark room and you'd want to put the light on (make sad person happy again).
In this life you have enough time to do both.

Happiness is always wonderful. Happiness makes one feel good. Nobody wants to be around someone who's sad all of the time. Such a downer.
