He will go down as a total absymal failure. Historians have ranked James Buchanan as the worst of all time for years. After Bush, poor old James will be second worst as Bush will take over the bottom slot. All people will have to do is look at the war and Bush's unpopularity and how he took a record budget surplus and turned it into a record deficit. If that isn't enough, they can look at how he made the nation a laughingstock throughout the world while alienating all of our allies at the same time. And, if they need still more - there's always Katrina. I'm just glad I've had the opportunity to live during the regime of the worst president in history - how many people will be able to say that in the future? After Bush, anyone would be better.

Only time will tell. The story has not been finished. In about 5-10 years we'll know better given that the fates of Iraq and Afghanistan will be better known.

Only going from what we know now- I'd say:
- His presidency will be predominantly remembered for 9/11, afghanistan and Iraq and all the controversy that goes along with it.
- the war on terror.
- Little will be noted on domestic policy except for tax cuts, the huge deficit and NCLB. Failed domestic policy change attempts at Soc. Security will be in there as well.
- Division in the country will be noted as well.
- And history will also note the controversy over both Bush's elections.

to person at the top:
Sadaam was NOT 1 year away from nukes.... geez you people are ignorant.

Well considering probably 99% of people don't know who was president 100 years ago, the general opinion will be "Bush who?"

Most people only remember the presidents of their lifetime and a little bit before, unless they were George Washington, Abe Lincoln or Thomas Jefferson.

The people of the United States and the world 100 years from now will not be thinking much about the current president at all. Historians will rank him among the very worst presidents ever - if there are even worse commanders in chief in the next century, otherwise historians will rank him as the worst.

Principal Reasons:

1) failure to deal effectively with terrorism by attending to foreign policy issues in the first eight months of his presidency in 2001, and failure to prioritize the capture or killing of bin Laden during the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001-2002

2) the complete unbalancing of the federal budget - actually planned, and done as the fulfillment of a central campaign promise

3) erosion of human rights by supporting torture practices and the death penalty

4) refusal to change policy on the war in Iraq, despite horrific levels of violence in 2005 and 2006, and strong suggestions among military leaders that the conflict was beginning to mutate into a civil war

5) willingness to use fear-mongering (of terrorism) to help himself in his own political race in 2004, and hence

Being stupid is itself a non-issue with future historians; they will only evaluate the outcomes of unintelligent leadership: bad policies.

if you base the facts on the unpopularity of Abraham Lincoln during his presidency I would say George W Bush will be hailed as one of our greatest.
