What do you mean by "psychotic?" Do you mean it in the psychobabble sense, as in, losing touch with reality in the form of hallucinations and delusions? Or do you mean, "psychotic" in the sense, "I am pms-ing and can therefore legally kill you, so give me the freaking chocolate and get out of my way now?"

If it is the former, the primary cause for hallucinations/delusions is not the menstrual cycle but an underlying mental disorder such as schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder (which can, like everything else in a woman's body, be affected by the menstrual cycle). As such, the underlying condition needs to be treated, not the pms.

Now, if it is the latter, it could be run-of-the-mill pms (which is anything but run-of-the-mill. I, myself, get a pretty good case of the blues and a craving for sweet and chocolatey or salty and crunchy. I've found that birth control pills seem to control the worst pms symptoms). However, if the symptoms are sever enough to impede functioning, it could be premenstrual dysphoric disorder. In order to qualify, pms symptoms must be very severe. There are a variety of treatments that work for both pms and pmdd, including relaxation; vitamins such as C and B-6; evening primrose oil; exercise; hormones; all the way up to anti-depressants.

I can get pretty uptight and emotional and I've been known to throw things at my husband when we argue and it's near that time of the month. I wouldn't call it psychotic though..but definely different to how I handle situations normally.

No. I just get cramps but once I take something for the pain, I am good to know and feel nothing. I am my usual happy self and no body can tell the difference.

No. Psycotic eppisodes is more than just PMS. I think you need to think if your just using PMS as an excuse or maybe there is something more serious going on.
