its a poppy they are wearing for Remembrance Sunday which is the nearest Sunday to November 11th, which is 11/11 Armistice Day. 'the armistice' is generally referred to in context of the agreement between the Germans and the Allies to end the war on November 11, 1918.

Remembrance Sunday will be on Sunday, November 12th this year

Remembrance Sunday is to remember ALL those that have died or suffered in ALL wars fighting for their country, although it was first held in 1921 to remember those who gave their lives during the First World War.

We wear the poppy to honour our brave soldiers who died to make us have a better life, the poppy is a flower that grows in abundance in flanders and other world war one battlefields, but it now also is a sign of rememberance for the pointless deaths that are happening in iraq and afganistan.

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month we shall remember them.

Is nothing taught in schools these days. I'm not blaming you for your ignorance, but our education system.
You can do your bit by donating to the poppy appeal and being thankful to the people who fought and died in the wars to us the freedom we enjoy today.

Are you joking? Its a poppy, its a badge worn to show respect for the people who died for us in the 1st world war! And also all the other wars fought to protect our countrym, to keep our freedom safe! Who are you if you dont know that?

seriously it's out of respect for them that died during the different wars.The money used to goto the chelsea pensioners the old guys in the red jackets.I think they might all e dead now.
