As a fellow New Yorker I would suggest checking the Rockawave. It's their local paper or speaking with an agent. The Rockaways have many different kinds of neighborhoods from low end to million dollar homes. It really depends on where; but ballpark figures are $750-$1,000 for studio/1br . You can also check craigslist.com, NY and look under apartments, then type in Far Rockaway.

Why rent, just buy. The cost of rent now days is about par to a mortgage.

i would get one outside of the city they are cheaper and you dont have to worry about getting shot all you would have to worry about is traffic and you can avoide that by taking the train
