I like to play connect the dots. I put little dots below my eyes (that you can, obviously) and then connect them. It works well!

Difficulty: Moderate
Shape and define your eyes with eyeliner after you've applied eye shadow and before applying mascara. Whether you choose a soft line or a dramatic stroke, eyeliner draws attention.
Instructions
STEP 1: Choose an eyeliner appropriate for your eye color. Brown, navy and charcoal accent light eyes well, while brown and plum shades flatter brown eyes. Make sure your liner complements the color of your shadow. STEP 2: Consider the type of look you're after. Pencil eyeliner gives your eyes soft definition, while liquid versions offer precision and drama. You can also moisten dark eye shadow and apply it with a small, flat brush. STEP 3: Prepare a cake liner or a dark eye shadow by applying a small amount of water to your brush. Or, if you're using a pencil eyeliner, ensure that you've sharpened the pencil adequately. STEP 4: Move the wet brush gently through your cake liner or dark shadow. Hold the brush or pencil as you would hold a pen. STEP 5: Tilt your head back slightly and bring your eyes to a half-open state. This creates a good angle for application, while allowing you to see what you're doing. STEP 6: Draw a line across the upper lid just above the lashes, from the inside corner to the outside corner of the eye. If you're using liquid liner, allow it to dry before opening your eyes all the way, or the color may transfer into the crease of your eye. STEP 7: If you used a brush or a pencil, soften the look by gently smudging the line with your brush, a cotton swab or your finger. STEP 8: Line the lower lids. Moving from the outside edge inward, draw a line on the outer two-thirds of the lid or more, depending on the look you're going for. Your line should be slightly thicker at the outside corner, becoming thinner as it moves in toward your nose. Using your brush or pencil, lightly stroke the area. If using a liquid liner, apply it in one smooth stroke. Apply less color so your eyes don't appear raccoonlike. Tips & Warnings
You may find eyeliner, particularly the liquid version, difficult and messy the first few times. Practice and have patience.
Wash brushes regularly with makeup remover or a mild gel shampoo.
Lining the inside of the lower lid is not recommended'it may cause eye infections, and it greatly increases the risk of getting makeup in your eye.

Top Ten Tips and Advice: Make-Up
How To Apply Eyeliner
1. Liquid eyeliner should only be used above the top lashes. It is best to use a pencil or eyeshadow under the lower lashes. For a more dramatic look, use a colored kohl pencil above and below lashes and follow with a black liquid liner on the top. It will make your lashes appear darker and will stay on all day. A dark eye-liner highlights the shape of your eyes and deepens the look. Softly line with eyeliner pencil, draw a thin line along lashes next to roots.
For a dramatic look, lightly dot color along the lower lashes. For softness, line can be smudged with fingertip or Q-tip.
------------------------------
2. Eyeliner should be applied close to the base of the eyelashes. Products vary from cake to liquid liner to pencil. Practice makes perfect in achieving a fine line. Hold your head back and look down into the mirror. The eyelid will be tight and it will be easier to apply the liner. Smudge if necessary.
------------------------------
3. Don´t apply eyeliner in a thick line. It looks harsh and makes the eye appear heavy and tired. Get out of the 60´s and instead use a fine line. If you have trouble, use a brush to blend and smooth it out.
------------------------------
4. By using a line under the lower lashes gives the illusion of making the eyes appear larger. Instead of using a pencil, try using a small makeup brush with a dark eyeshadow. Apply into the lashes to make the lashes appear darker. Below this line apply a highlighter eyeshadow (in white, beige or yellow) in a fine line with a cleansed small brush. This will brighten the eye area.
------------------------------
5. There are pencil eyeliners, liquid eyeliner, and cake eyeliners. Pencil liners can be used above top lashes and under lower lashes. Liquid liners should only be used on the top lid. Cake eyeliners are used with water and can be used both top and bottom.
------------------------------
6. A smoky violet pencil looks best for someone with green eyes. On the color wheel, green and violet are opposite, and so they look well together. Also, look at nature when deciding on a color palette. Green, burnt orange and beige can be found in a field of autumn colors.
------------------------------
7. If you want to use the same liner pencil for eyes and lips I would recommend using an eyeliner pencil. Then you know this is safe for the eyes. Choose a shade that is a red-brown or a plum-brown. Then it will compliment your lipstick.
------------------------------
8. A liquid eyeliner or a cake eyeliner that you use with a fine brush will stay on the best. If you don´t feel adept at using these, pencils work well also. Pencils can be smudged for a subtle look. Always hold your head back, look down into the mirror, and apply your eyeliner. This will keep your eyelid skin tight and you can make a smooth line.............
Hope this helps...there are alot of tips at this site you might like...good luck...i am sure practice will help.

I couldn't draw a straight line to save my life. What helped me was not to use the tip of the applicator. Use the side of it. I never completely shut my eyes and put on the outer 2/3 of my eye after my eye shadow is on this works great because if you get it where you don't want it the eye shadow that is there won't let it stay on just use a Q-tip and touch up later then I do the outer 1/4 of the bottom lid at the lash line gives you the wide eye look. I have Sm eyes and this helps.

Look, if your hand is shakey like mine, trade in your eyeliner for some dark eyeshadow and an angled brush.
Wet the angled brush and get some eyeshadow on it, and then apply it like an eyeliner. It's a softer look and alot easier to apply.
Getting eyeliner on my top lashes isnt easy, so I'll pull out the corners of my eye to make the skin taut and help get the curve out.
Hope I helped.

I would use a pencil first of all. Get the tip going by rubbung it on your hand, once the coler shows up great the close one eye and pull the edge a little outward, then take your time and in short strokes appy to where your lashes meet the lid. open the eye often to see what is happening. Also keep a moist q-tip near by to help correct any mistakes. Good luck!

i always had the same problem. i use cover girl soft..i believe thats the name of it. you will want a eyeliner that is smooth this way you aren't digging at your eye. follow the bottom outline of your bottom lid under your lashes. never put it on the inside because you will or can, get an infection. then use the smuger to clear away the excess. for example if you made the line tooo thick. its not always necessary to put it on the top lid.

First, I use a gel eyeliner instead of a pencil. Smashbox makes a gel called caviar its black. They also make an angled brush that is used for applying the gel liner...

Yes, make sure you do it lightly because if you do it to dark you can get sists on your eyelines and they are very painful. Make sure your eyeliner is not to sharp and tilt it just right

Pull your eyelid very taut and make sure that the pencil is semi-soft. First place it on a fire or a warm surface to make it soften up a bit. Do it in a sequenced fashion or you will get shaky-handed and it will mess up
