Hi, I rescued a betta fish from Wal*mart. The Walmart I live nearby treats it's fish really well. Well, I found two male bettas in the same tank! One was losing horribly, and it's finds were messed up. I got an employee to seperate them. When I saw the condition of the one that lost, I was horrified. It's mesed up fins were literally falling off! I bought it and named him Tank. I also have a male and a female betta along with him (in seperate tanks). But will his fins EVER get better? I am really worried, and he will be a very pretty betta if they get better. His fins that are left are red, and his body blue.

If he lives his fins will grow back. He needs help along the way though.
1. Change his water frequently. every 3-4 days should be good.
2. Sterilize his equipment regularly. Boil everything but him on a regular basis.
3. If he shows any signs of infection - loosing more fin, lethargy, not eating, bloating, raised fins, clumped fins, etc treat him with an antibiotic. I use tetracycline and I get it from petsmart. Follow the directions on the box. Change the water according to the box if you are using antibiotics; other than that stick to every 3-4 days.
4. Feed him foods with lots of nutrients. Go for freeze dried foods. Avoid live food since they may harbor germs his immune system may not be able to handle at the moment. A mix of pellets and freeze dried foods will work well.
5. Love him!
6. I have not ever used mela-fix so I don't know about it. I would give it a shot though. Just follow the directions on the bottle.
7. I would treat him with a round of antibiotics now to prevent and then use them if he shows signs of infection.
8. Good Luck!

Be sure to do frequent water changes in his bowl to keep the possibility of infection down, and pick up some MelaFix (or bettafix, same thing just not as strong a dose) and add that to the water. It'll help the fins.

Maybe....sadly that is the truth. it depends on the extent of the injury. But even if the fins dont grow back fully, he should still be a very happy betta. but If they do start growing back, be care full with the fins they will be clear and fragile. good luck and i hope tank grows his fins back!

His fins will eventually grow back. It will take a long time. There is a product called Mela-Fix that will help with the re-growth of fins, I have used it and recommend it.

I would treat the water to help avoid infection. If he lives, the fins will grow back.

I dont mean to be mean to any of those human beings yet dont hear, positioned a million/4 of the sq. in some water in basic terms in basic terms a sprint from the tank then scrape them up and carry them on the exterior of the water this way they'd consume as much as they'd in a couple of minutes without leaving any of them to fall to the backside to rott, mine will bounce out of the water to consume those!! btw if your no longer breeding they only would desire to consume as quickly as an afternoon!!!

Just to enforce what was said before, make sure you take good care of him, frequent water changes, a nice house, little stress.

But just out of curiosity...if your walmart takes such good care of fish why were two males in together?

Possibly but it depends on severity of the wounds.
