Yes your answer is correct.
Dealing with the double signs it's just important to remeber that opposite signs will always give you a negative and similar signs will always give you a positive.
- + = -
+ + = +
- - = +
so for your question...
7 + (-9) + (-5) + 6
= 7 - 9 - 5 + 6
= -2 -5 + 6
= -7 + 6
= -1
