It depends on the sort of job you have. If it has prospects then you accept the fact that you need experience in the real world. The rewards will come in time. A college education does not, by itself, prepare you for a real job. If you are in a dead-end job, you should be looking for something better. I know that can be disheartening. You have senior executives of large companies to blame for that. They deskilled hitherto good jobs and then shipped them out to countries where they thought they could get the job done more cheaply.

If you are a "mature student" with many years of experience who has suffered through the aforementioned job theft, then I really feel for you. All you can do, I think, is tell yourself you are good and that someone will recognize your talents. I have had a few false dawns and I am back in school full-time now. I just live in hope.

There is no easy answer to this, alas.

If you cannot find a job that pays more than that then i feel sorry for you. The only college grads that are without work are the ones that did if for the sweatshirts and stories to tell their buddies.

I didn't go to college because when i was a senior in highschool i found out that 47% of the world's college grads make less money a year than what school cost them for a year. 9 out of the top ten billionaires never went to college either. That is sad.

Get off the computer and start looking for work. Send out 100 resumes a day in your industry and start doing things that may not have suited your educational needs. For example: I am a 24 year old guy that works as a consultant and gets paid 75k a year for my thoughts not my actions. Bottom line is that you need to make people want your thoughts and not your actions. The mind is more powerful than the sword. You are one of a million people out there that are overeducated and underappreciated and it makes people like me disgusted to hear people complaining about the job market.

Give me one week with your resume and i will have you hired making more than 60k a year no problem. You might have missed this in grammar school but the coolest kid in the 3rd grade was the one that all of the cool toys. Go out and get your self some nice clothes for an interview and be flashy.

There are three types of people in the world.
Those that play the game.
Those that win the game.
Those that change the game.

Which one are you now?

I was often offered $10 despite the fact that I had 5 years of Customer Service experience, and some administration + Degree from a private University ( 2 majors )

I used to be paid around 35K before the Degree ( salary ), and if I worked for an hourly wage PT job - I was paid minimum $10. I am very angry that hard work is not recognized and that my experience is not taken in consideration.

I think it's an exploatation to offer you the lowest wage. If I were a Hiring Manager I would not feel comfortable to look someone in the eyes who worked hard for that Degree and offer a minimum wage. I have no idea how they can do it, knowing that tons of illegals with no English whatsover often have better paid jobs than I! Sorry I did not want to go political but that's just my experience.

Also, if you will work for low pay at least pick the job you really love. I can tell you for certain, I would NOT work for a minimum wage regardless. That's just degratory for any student who went to University and obtained a degree.

Seems like you need to start more serious work. Try the financial markets, almost as good an opportunity as a specialist doctor, with half the education. Get involved trading common stocks, 100 share lots, study, learn, trade. If you had a few thousand right now, CAT, F, are great long term plays.

Stay on your toes, the man wants you working for him, not yourself. If you think he wants to see you wealthy and successful, you are wrong.
