I agree that other countries are pretty much on the same level as the United States when it comes to baseball. I don't think it's embarrassing at all. It's just the normal evolution of the game world wide. It had to happen one day. Just look at basketball, another American game. We don't dominate basketball either on the world circuit anymore. There are great athletes all over the world in all sports. One day I'd like to see a real world series. The champions from all the leagues across the world play in a world championship tournament and crown a real "World Champion."

First off, American baseball is not dominated by foreign players from japan or Cuba like you suggest. Dominican players are abundant , but they don't have a league in the Dominican. Japan has had ONE, I repeat ONE long term success in Ichiro in America. Nomo had two good years. Now he is gone.
I know some of you are thinking that the US did not win the WBC. Big deal. Let me ask you this. If you were getting paid 12 million at age 28 and were ask to play in some exhibition games 4 months after your season ended and risk injury and losing the 18 million dollar salary you could get in two years, would you take it seriously. Yeah, me neither. Fact is, japan and Cuba play year round. They were in the middle of their season when the WBC was played. The Americans were in SPRING TRAINING. Actually, they were at spring training for a week. Let's not declare japan and Cuba as great players just yet.
Do any of you remember the great Cuban third baseman andy morales? He defected from cuba and had a great US car..... wait..... Oh, thats right. He didn't do anything over here.
American baseball is by far the best in the world. Maybe if Japan and Cuba sent thier National teams over here they could win 85-90 games. Pretty much be the dodgers. That is why washed up players like benny agbyoni(?) who used to play for the mets, went over there and is an all-star when he couldn't even find a starting job here.

The problem with your question is, are you saying that Major League baseball would house a team in Havana and Tokyo.. if so, then wouldn't American or Canadian players be subject to the same trade, or free agent offers that the general manager would or could attempt.. as well as draft US players.. The teams would also be subjected to the expansion rules governing major league baseball.. It might be easier for a team housed in Cuba to attract free agents... All assuming that the trade and culture embargos imposed by the Fed Gov were, of course, lifted..
National teams already play each other.. but there is no league were National teams play in a league that plays 162 game season.. and if they did.. I don;t think it economically, or even physically possible to see Cuba and Japan play each other 24 times, 12 home and 12 away..

Don't forget -- we only see a national team when we see the Cubans. They have some very good players, of course, but depth is said to be a problem. Some of the defecting players haven't panned out that well. Japan has had some players do well in the United States, but not a ton of them.
That said, the more baseball grows, the more international the majors will become. And that's good. I want to see the world's best play in the majors here (same as in the NBA or NHL). Nothing wrong with it at all -- it's not a party unless everyone is invited, as we used to say in college.

I agree, as we saw in the World Baseball Classic, many countries have talent in baseball. But to have teams in those countries would make the traveling hard. Players would have a very long trip if they had an away game in Cuba or Japan.

First problem: time zones. If Japan actually has a team in the MLB, the travelling would kill the entire league as well as fan base (who would stay up or wake up at around 6-7am to watch baseball?).
Second problem: Cuba. I haven't been very updated with US/Cuba relations, but last I checked, Americans usually come north to Canada to take a flight down there. Something to do with US embargos and/or sanctions. I could be wrong on that one though. Puerto Rico, that's where the money is though.

I dont think so,let me tell you why playing 162 games is a grind, those teams you are considering would be prone to injuries just as US teams, plus scouting is so good today the US teams will find holes in those teams just like they do in the US teams, plus do they have enough talent to compete over the long haul I don't think so.Take all the foreign players and put them on a team and just try to play 162 games you will find that they would be so-so at best

I don't think the World Baseball Classic proves anything because the American stars only played together a short time. If teams were allocated by nation, the Dominican team would probably be the team to beat.
