It is so the bacteria can become stronger and more resistant. I believe studies have shown that babies that have not been exposed to bacteria are actually sicker when they get older because the have not built up any immunities.

There are a lot of medical researchers who agree with you -- and who also can show that casual use of anti-bacterial products has contributed to the evolution of bacteria that are resistant to anti-bacterial agents...so such widespread use of these kinds of products actually in the long run will make us sicker, when bacteria that our products can't kill get more widespread. Same thing that has happened with the indiscriminate (and wrong) use of antibiotics.
Washing your hands with soap and hot water regularly will do more to keep you "healthy" than any dozen anti-bacterial products. Just plain old hygiene works very well.

You got me...I've thought the same... When I grew up, Ma left the chicken out to thaw, just wiped the counter off with a warm soapy cloth. We NEVER got salmonella. I don't buy into the anti-bacterial stuff in my home, but at work is a whole different ballgame, though.

Well, not all bacteria is bad and most of our bodies have an immunity to some of the common bacteria... However, it just removes the dirt and makes people cleaner... Try not washing your hands for a week or two and see if you get sick... lol... just kidding! :-)

I like anti bacterial soap. Why the heck else would you use soap if not to get rid of germs and other guck? I think it is one of those oxymoron things. Just a sales ploy.
