That would depend on the individual and also what type of fracture it is.

Some people continue to use crutches after the cast is off until their leg develops enough muscle strength back. Other people have walking casts, so depends on what type of fracture to answer your question. Some fractures are worse than others.

When my son broke his leg he was able to walk without his crutches after the 2nd day of having his cast removed. The doctor told us if it took any longer than a week we should bring him in for additional ex-rays.

It depends on your age and how long you need the cast. Expect at least 2 weeks.

The doctor should tell you how long to use them for and ask you to take an appointment to make sure everything is back to normal or if you should use them longer. It really depends on ur bones and the fracture itself but it usually takes a week or 2. For some people it might take longer depending on their bones' healing speed or how bad the fracture was.

Luckily, when I have a broken leg, my "third leg" is long enough and strong enough to walk on. Oh sure I walk funny, like Frankenstein when he's REALLY happy to see you, but it sure beats crutches. A lot of girls stop and talk to me, too....
