I know this question has been asked a 1000 times but I really need to know.

I have been a fan of Star Wars since i was nearly 7 years old when New Hope came back to theatres (missed the first showing). I waited 20 years for the prequels and i still wait (with some hope) for a sequel.

But as soon as Ep 1-3 came out people put them down. Yet these were greatly done (except a few certain charectors) with great story lines.

In 1993 i read the original scripts to ep 2-3 (missed the ep 1 script) and reread them again in 2000 on the internet. They followed Luca's original plan pretty much. All though a few names were changed.

So my question is this. How the hell do people put down the prequels? was it that Lucas waited too long? cant be the movies themselves. Ep3 was a work of art of the story line.

Only things i wish they hadnt changed were:

1. the battle between Obi-wan and Anakin happened at the beggining of the stoyr of ep 3, because the jedi and Palpetine both learn

of a powerfull crystal that can affect their plans for the power of the force.

2. amadala is captured and prisoned during palpetines declare of emporership and dies in a cross fire of escape.

3. the formation of the rebellion happens when the emporer blockades Coroscant in order to control the government. and a nunber of soldiers, pilots and leaders attempt to escape.. huge space battle.

Personally, I think Anakin is a moron for falling for flattery. How can he hope the Dark Side can help Padme if that's basically what's killing her? I also didn't like all the special effects, because there were just too many things happening all at once. But rock on, Ewan McGregor!

Well, you're certainly entitled to your opinion. But the prequels were very poorly done aside from the technical effects.

1. Poor dialog. Too many lines just didn't work. Admittedly, there were a few howlers in the original movies as well, but overall, much better due to superior collaborators (Kasdan and Brackett).

2. Bad casting. Anakin was badly cast in every movie, particularly Ep 1. Since he is the key to the whole series, poor casting here weakens the whole thing.

3. Evil Jedi. Really. The Jedi of the prequels are a self-appointed religious order of mind manipulating, child stealing, emotionless despots who spy on the head of their government, create their own private army, and pretty much get what was coming to them.

4. Too darn silly. Jar-Jar, the robot voices in Ep 3, Anakins space battle from episode 1 and more. Humor is best applied deftly and lightly in a drama. Lucas piles it on until it all breaks down.

5 Bad plot. The Emperor's plan is absurdly convoluted. The basic idea of creating his own threat wasn't bad, but he jumps through way to many hoops on the way to making it work.

As a Star Wars fan, I was disappointed in the prequels, but I think it is generational. The first movies made had more depth in the characters and seemed more fun at times; perhaps less intense and with more comic relief. The cast played a big role in creating bigger than life characters. The cast and characters of the prequels pale by comparison.

The prequels were also made with today's generation in mind. This is (no offense but I believe this is true) a shallow generation compared to previous generations who wanted a meaning to books and movies; a moral of the story if you will.

The prequels have a lot of action, but less depth than the others. This appeals to Generation X and Generation Y. But it doesn't do much for me.

I did enjoy the movies, but not up to the level of all the hype that was out as we waited to see them. The movies done by Lucas in the 70s were much better in my opinion, even without the better special effects abilities.

because of the fact George Lucas desperate to make episodes 4 5 and six first. Then there replaced right into a sixteen 3 hundred and sixty 5 days hollow until eventually now he made episodes a million 2 and 3, i do no longer understand why he did this. in case you prefer to exhibit screen them interior the order they have been made watch 4 5 6 a million 2 3. yet once you choose the story to bypass then watch them interior the order a million 2 3 4 5 6.

I think it was the horrible dialogue and the interactions between the characters. Luke, Leia, and Han (and the rest of the characters) seem to have more natural exchanges. In ep. 1, 2, and 3, it seemed very forced to me and way too melo-dramatic. Anakin especially was way over the top.

People put them down because those movies were SO horribly written.

Empire Strikes Back wasn't written by George, but by Leigh Brackett using his outline.

And she ended up giving depth to the character they didn't have before. That's why Empire is considered to be the best out of all the Episodes.

I did like Revenge of the Sith because I just loved watching all the Jedi finally getting their comeuppance. Especially Yoda. He got royally spanked by Sidious.

I was the only one in the theater shouting YES! and pumping my fist with glee when Yoda got a lightning bolt in the face that sent him hurtling across the room. It was like finally somebody shut that little frog up.

I think the point is that they are anti climactic. Plus lets face it Annakin started out 10 and jumped to 17 in one film and Padme started out looking 16 and only aged 2 years in the same span of time. I would say that was bad casting. My thought is that without a 7,8&9 people will always be wondering why it came out 4, 5, 6,1,2,3.

The prequels were dull, confusing and bogged down with some truly atrocious dialogue.

Star Wars 1: Rescue a captured princess and destroy the evil Death Star before it kills all the good guys. Wow!

Phantom Menace: Uh, something about spices...and trying to blow up Queen Armadillo...and, uh, I dunnno, Jar Jar Binks?

Jeez, where to start? The awful dialog? The fact that Lucas has the uncanny knack to make acadamy award caliber actors (Sam Jackson, Liam Neeson, Nat Portman, etc.) look like cheesy amatuers? The poop and fart jokes in ep. one?
The mistaken assumption that we all needed a solid scientific explanation of the Force (MidiChlorians? WTF?)?
And that's just episode one, I could go on...

i think the reason i didn't like at least episode one and two, is that the dialogue is awful. the worst example being the "love is blind" scene between padme and anakin which is just painful.
