Check that your gas cap is on real tight. They are computer controled to turn on the light if they are loose.

If the car cranks over fine but doesn't start, you have either a fuel delivery problem or an ignition problem. Checking for ignition is easy - remove the spark plugs but leave them attached to their spark plug wires. One by one, ground the body of each spark plug and have a friend turn over the engine for a few seconds - watch for a spark! No sparks means an ignition problem. Be careful you don't get zapped, be around anything flammable or around any moving engine parts when you do this!
If ignition is good, its probably a fuel delivery system problem. There are too many possible causes of problems with both systems that I cannot give a better answer based on your info, but this should point you in the right direction - fuel or spark problem.

I had this happen to me yesterday and I own a 2004 Neon. I got out and went to turn it back, and nothing happened. I had someone come jump start me, and as soon as he took the cables off, the car died instantly.

So my problem was that I needed a new battery. Have someone jump start your car, if it starts but dies right after the cables come off, you need a new battery. If it happens again, you might need a new alternator. Or you might need a new battery.

a short verify of the gasoline equipment is to disconnect the the tube most excellent into the injector rail (undemanding to do in basic terms pinch the clips on the part of the tube and pull off), placed a mt water bottle over the detached tube to seize the gasoline, and turn the most important. If gasoline comes out, prob not the gasoline pump. I had an same prob, i replaced the gasoline clear out and that did not artwork and finely replaced the TPS and automobile runs high quality now. seems the TPS voltage became to extreme.

You can always get your battery or alternator checked at a Kragen for free. It sounds like it might be the alternator, but I would also check for lose wires.
