I don't believe that people are all that different in how they think. It seems to me that peoples' thoughts center around their needs and concerns, which are often similar for people. But people differ more in the way that they express their thoughts. Everyone has a different vocabulary and communication style because we've all been socialized differently. But most all of want the similar things (health, safety, companionship, success, novelty, sex etc.) That's hardwired into our genes. But we all seems to have our own method for obtaining those things. And that is what makes humans singularly unique.

I challenge your assumption that we are similar in our genes. Researchers estimate as many as 3 million genetic polymorphisms in the human genome - that's 3 million potential variations in the functioning of our 25,000 genes. In addition, every genome has a different state of epigenetic regulation that creates additional diversity in gene expression.

This comes to the question of nature vs. nurture. Are we formed by our genetic makeup or are we formed by our environments? I, being an empiricist, believe most of who we are is shaped by our environment.
