born in 67 so my real growing up years were in the 70s,during grade school, 80s for middle, and high school, i have an older bro that turned me on to the 60s and 70s music which i enjoy and still love, remember all the genres from the 70s from disco to punk , classic rock, then came new wave, hair metal, in the 80s, the early 90s were so,so, and the new music of today well lets just say I'm happy with the era i grew up in

I have no complaints about the musical era I grew up in - saw The Beatles on Ed Sullivan the very first time, didn't quite make it to Woodstock, went to a concert featuring The Beach Boys and Crosy, Stills, Nash and Young (still not quite sure which band was the "headliner"), never got to see Neil without the other three. There was a plethora of great local music in that era also - seemed everyone knew someone who was in a band and most of them were very good.
Neil Young is still out there with something valid to say, as is Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, John Prine, and a lot of the other songwriters from the late 60s.

I was Born in 1966. beside having to live through the Disco phase, I love the music Ive know my life. I remember the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Music like that has never seen its equal.
I rarely listen to the new music of today.. its just regurgitated music from the past, and they did it so much better then. and yes Rap is idiotic.
So I may be old. But have tunes within me like The Rolling Stones, The Who, Judas Priest, and AC DC, and all the wonders of the 70's and 80's. All my memories have this type of music as their soundtracks.

Let's face it our music era has got to be the worst post WW2 era in music. How many new songs are going to be tomorrow's classics? Only a handful I fear. Any other time would be better, even a bad hair day in 1987!
(the mid 50's, the 60's and late 70's are all candidates for various, well documented, reasons)

If I had my way i would have been 16 in 1977. The Misfits put out thier first album that year. Lots and lots of bands I never got to see cause I was born too late.

i hate rap. i wish i had grown up in the 80s, near a punk scene, with bands performing for 2 bucks, go see em. those hardcore shows we're just about music and mosh. they were about their ideas and ideals. and having a good time. damn did i ever miss out. all mainstream music sucks.

Would you people stop badgering rap everyday on this damn site? you didn't have a choice of what era you grew up in so that doesn't make you any better than us younger people who have it way better than you did anyways.....
