Anyone that says gays choose to be gay are just looking for an easy answer.
No one chooses to be gay, or straight.
Enviroment has no effect. Most gay people are raised in traditional homes just like most straights are. If it were the enviroment, then why aren't all the siblings of gay people also gay? They aren't (some maybe, but as a rule they are not). Children raised in gay or lesbian homes are no more likely to be gay than those raised in straight homes. That is fact.
There is no proof that it is genetic yet, but evidence points to it. It is also thought that a mothers hormones may also have some influence.
It is luck of the draw what you are born as, just as it is if you are left handed or right handed.
good question!

First, please don't say "the gays" that's unacceptable to most gay people. Feels too much like saying "the blacks." Secondly, nice of you to be supportive! Keep up the good work. And third, you will probably never get a straight answer on your question (pardon the pun). I personally believe that being an LBGTQ person is a combination of genetics and environment. Let me expalin a bit more. I believe that being gay itself - the urges, the thoughts, etc - just like heterosexuality is genetic. You either are or you aren't gay. However, the environment you grow up in influences whether you ever learn the fact about yourself (if you are gay that is) or whether you keep it buried inside (conciously or subconsciously). I know that's not the greatest answer - just personal opinion, but it's the best I can do. Cheers!

I don't think you'll find one simple answer to this. I feel it's probably a little of both. There are ppl for whom being gay is genetic, and there are ppl who choose to be gay because of their life experience/s. I don't think it matters a lot one way or the other. What seems to me to be important is that a gay person comes to a realization of that in their own time, and finds acceptance and unconditional love in a supportive environment.

I truly believe that gay people are born that way. Do you really think a person would choose a life filled with all the hardships gay people go through? We all need to learn to love people for all their differences.

People are born gay but often do not realize it until the start puberty. I included links to 3 articles showing differences between heterosexual and homosexual brains.

I think it can be either or both. It depends on the person.
There were cultures (Romans, Greeks) where it was considered a societal norm to engage in homosexual behavior, so a lot of people did.
There are also people who say they were just born that way and have known since they were small children.
Also, a lot of strippers and prostitutes get fed up with men and prefer women (I know several strippers, they told me this).
If it were JUST a result of nurture (the way you were raised), then you would expect most siblings, particularly twins, to be gay.

We don't have enought infomation to know for a certainty, sad to say. Many of us who are gay or lesbian have had same gender attractions since we were very small, so we believe it was born in us.. that is our experience. A lot of people (expecially those who are not gay or lesbian, including soem Bi-sexuals in denial, do not have our experience, and deny our reflections are accurate reflections of reality.

It's truly a choice for people to be gay. There are no genetics or brain chemical in it.

There is one way to answer that. Where do gay people come from? STRAIGHT couples....usually.....so...it COULD be if a man had a feminine upbringing...or if a woman had a masculine upbringing. But I don't think people are really BORN gay......babies don't know either way.
