If your a Christian and use the word Xmas, your just stupid, why would you want to take Christ out of the word?

OTHERWISE, for you others:: It is our Holiday. Christmas is for Christians as the name suggest. CHRISTmas. Okay. So dont take out Christ and put an X. Its disrespectful to our religion and Holiday. You wouldnt do stuff like that to Jews or other religions.

ALSO:: I am sick of people who are not Christians, celebrating Christmas., without celebrating Christ's birth of coure. They just celebrate with Santa's and snowmen.....
But it's just like, Get your own holiday!! Please.

Actually the X is a combination of the Greek letter Chr and then what stood for ist. So the X with a line intersecting the vertical center was an old Greek way of spelling Christ. That symbol can be found on some altars. The early Christians used it as a way to talk about Christ without risking their lives. It is something that has come down through the years. I learned this in one of my history classes and when I had to learn the Greek alphabet.

Why should you deprive others of a holiday? I agree that people should be able to say "Merry Christmas" if they want to without worrying about offending anyone, but I also think they should be able to say "Happy Holidays" if they so desire.

Throughout history, there has celebration at that time of year throughout many cultures, both Christian and non-Christian, and much of that has converged into the modern-day festival we know as Christmas. In fact, Christians originally took over the date of the pagan winter holiday...not the other way around.

So why can't we just be happy that everyone has something to celebrate? Most secular celebrations include many of the same aspects (charity, peace, thanksgiving) that the Christian holiday embodies.

"Get your own holiday"? You are kidding, right? "Christmas" has little or nothing to do with Christianity; "Jesus" birth was probably in October, anyway, and early Christians just decided to celebrate it at the Winter Solstice (or "Saturnalia") so they could hide the reason for their celebration from the Romans. So the celebration on 25 December actually belongs to the Romans, not the Christians.

(by the way, Easter doesn't belong to the Christians, either; long before Christ, a holiday was celebrated then to honor Ishtar by the Sumerians, and in all liklihood the Christians stole this, too!)

X is Greek for Christos which is where the title Christ comes from in the first place.

The same can be asked of you: why are you so disrespectful to those who don't share your beliefs? America is a free country and if a non-religious person wants to celebrate Christmas, that is their right. It is *not* up to you to dictate that. If you research the history of Christmas, it started in the Middle Ages and was borrowed from the Pagans. Biblical scholars agree that Christ was not born in the winter.

Santa Clause has nothing to do with the birth of Christ, so in essence those who are celebrating Xmas are leaving Christ out of their thoughts. Do you then not buy presents, or get pulled into the material aspect of Christmas? Do you have a Christmas tree? I am tired of self righteous Christians who feel they can say anything they please simply because they are Christian. God loves the humble man "for the meek shall inherit the earth.".

christmas has nothing to do with religion anymore it is a celebration, some people may still use Jesus Christ as the reason, but now it is the season of giving. the reason for holding the holiday may have changed but the idea remains the same. the world was blessed with the gift of christ, and we are blessed with the gift of presents and family, people only use xmas if they dont want to put it as a religous holiday. so just let them be it's not like it affects you.

Maybe you need to relax a little and drink some hot chocolate next to my HOLIDAY tree and listen to some nice HOLIDAY music.

Geez, get educated about the greek letters! You can't very well go on a tirade without all your facts now can you?

Oh and don't you celebrate Halloween (the paegan holiday) with all the other christains?

You should be glad there are people being happy around the holidays. Don't take it as a personal offense toward yourself.

Don't get so worked up about it. I found this on World Book:
The word Xmas is sometimes used instead of Christmas. This tradition began in the early Christian church. In Greek, X is the first letter of Christ's name. It was frequently used as a holy symbol.

First, I am a follower of Christ and a believer. Second, I do not think that Christ would be offended by those who do not mix His name with the unholy season. I, for one, do not celebrate a pagan holiday; thus, I do not celebrate "x-mas." In fact, I prefer, as a follower of Christ, to use x-mas to denote the unholy "holy-day." Moreover, the Bible teaches us that we should not mix God with other pagan festivals or religions. We are to worship Him in truth and in spirit. Last, I think that more people who profess Christ as their Lord and Savior should study to show themselves approved unto Christ... someone who need not be ashamed. In other words, we (I once lived in ignorance, too) should really learn what this celebration is truly about... it never was about Christ or His birth. Therefore, to say that others should get their own holiday is ignorant since this was always a pagan festival and custom... maybe we should come out from among them... and be ye separate.
