They travelled a total of 476 miles in 4 hours. So together they are travelling (476/4) mph or 119 mph.

So you have two equations:
J + S = 119
J - S = 5

2J = 124
J = 62 mph
S = 57 mph

d=rt

s=sachiko

476=4s+ 4(s+5)
476=4s+4s+20
456=8s
s=57

sanchiko=57, jose=62

it did this by making a chart with problem. if you want to use a chart here's the info:

2 rows, one ofr jose and another for san..
3 columns: rate, time, rate * time

and just fill it in for each person.

d=rt
476 = 4r + 4 (r+5)
476 = 8r +20
456 = 8r
r = 57

Sachiko 57mph
Jose 62 mph
