As is how much time do you have since the baby is born and what if the father had his last name wrongly entered many years ago and the mom has her maiden name and we'd like to give the baby the correct last name...which neither the father or mother have on their ids.

I don't believe anyone actually got the point of your question.. I'll give it a try.
First, I would call your delivery hospital and ask for the birth certificate department. They can give you an accurate answer for how long you can wait to name your baby. They will most likely be able to answer about the misspelling as well.
I do know that if you type papers yourself and give documentation, it is relatively cheap and easy for your baby's father to correct his name. My husband was raised by his grandparents and used their name through school, and when we planned on marriege found out that he had to use his birth name even though his social security card said the other. We did NOT want this (dead-beat dad issue) and had it changed for $50 within 1 week. I did all the typing.
If you have time, do this so all of you can have matching names later :) If you do not have time, give your baby your maiden name, and once he can switch it over, call your local Vital Statistics Registry (Birth Records) and tell this her birth father wants to add his name to her birth certificate. My sister just did this for free and my niece now matches her family :) It was as simple as a few signatures and notarization.
I hope this helps.

Any name as long as it is not/does not contain digits. You can't name your kid 456786, for example. Also, the child does not have to have the same last name as either of the parents - if one is Smith and the other is Jones, the baby could be Taylor if you wish. Generally they tell you that you must have a name before leaving the hospital, but that may not be true.

No, there are none. I worked with a baby girl named Bikiniwanna haltertop butterscotch polkadot. The hospital sent a social worker to the home, but nothing ended up happening since there was nothing to report.

You can name your child Boughetto and the government has no right to tell you otherwise. Be Careful what you name the kid tho because you may scar the kid. I knew a guy at my middle school his name prounounced O-ron-gee-low but it was spelled Orangejello yes his name was really Orange Jello. The gov. should have stepped in on that one.

Naming a newborn is the parents right. Unless the newborn is adopted and then it is the parents rights. As fare as I know we still have the civil right to name our newborns any name we choose.

why would there be regualtions on what you can name your baby? I think the only law out there is that you cannot call your baby a number a la George and "Seven" on Sienfeld.
