What do you believe the reprecussions would be, both negative and positive, for the U.S. to hypothetically purchase the rest of Mexico and then turn it into the 51st state?

We could never afford the welfare payments all those poor people would suddenly be entitled to. The Mexicans would go totally apesh*t when the liberals insist on removing all crosses and saints from public property.

Well besides adding a large socialistic welfare state to the union that would skyrocket taxes everywhere in order to bring their country up to speed with ours, nothing at all. There would be no consequences beyond having to focus an incredible amount of energy and money on bringing millions of people up to speed with a completely foreign way of life.

You can't even quantify the repercussions of what your talking about. It makes no sense. You clearly have not traveled to foreign lands to see how others live if you think this would be possible. Being an American does not mean simply being born within our borders. We have a value system far different from those elsewhere. Other nations have always found it hard to believe that we are willing to not only fight but die for a little thing called freedom. People elsewhere will tell you its not that bad to live in a dictatorship or a socialist country. That's because they have never sniffed freedom. Once you get a good whiff however you will never allow you and your family to experience anything but. Your question can't even be answered because its so far out of reality.

Thank God that will never happen. This nation would become a Third World banana republic overnight. There are no positives only negatives. What a horrible thought!!!!

Negitive would be the culture. Big drugs etc.
Plus, we'd be able to recover more criminals that think we can't get them if they make it to Mexico.
Not to worry thought, not a chance that this will ever happen.
Would also cost way to much money.

A war, the Mexican government would not accept it. Oh and a bankrupt America.

purchase it? we should just annex it! ive said it for years. we take over the country, reorganize the government, get the people that are living in the dumps to move into the presidents houses over there and then we have their oil too. perfect solution!

i am sure i'll get yanked for this...

Devasting. We don't need another welfare state. We have CA, LA, NY already.
