The United States government does very little to help Sudanese refugees. There have been a few admissions of refugees into the United States, however these programs are very selective and only help a lucky few.
For the most part, helping refugees in Sudan does little for American politicians or for the American economy. Believe it or not, but American foreign policy is dictated by politicians with self serving interests.
The average American cares little about the horrors of Sudan. If you remember, America’s intervention in Somalia was a disaster. In 1993, 18 American soldiers died in a mission to bring peace to Somalia. Americans are no longer willing to sacrifice soldiers in peace keeping operations in Africa because of Somalia. I am not speaking from my own point of view, but the general feeling of the American electorate.
