I dunno, but try this for a logical reason and let me know what you think...
Females in packs of lions menstruate at the same time as the female with the stronger hormones. The male, unable to control himself as usual, and refusing to ask for directions to the correct female then humps every female in sight til he gets the right one. As all the females are receptive at the same time (becasue of the alpha female) chances of being mated and producing young.increases.
Maybe this was also required of humans up to some point in our evolution, but no longer since (for most anyway) our preditory instincts have become more emotional and logical.

The current theory is that it is a pheromone signal. Some women are "pacesetters", and emit pheromones (scents that you can not smell on a conscious level) that make other women cycle along with them.
The way they tested this was to keep absorbent pads under the arms of women who were these pacesetters, and then rub the pads below the nose of other women. (And don't we all wish we got to participate in THAT study). 80% of the other women were cycling along with the pacesetters within 5 months. It was a very small study, though, so no doubt the final word isn't in.

Pheromones stimulates the lining of the nose which then sends a chemical message to the brain. The brain sends its
hormone messages to the ovaries and uterus, thereby changing the cycle.
When i shared a house with 2 of my female friends we all had our periods at the same time so its definitely true

Anything anyone touches leaves a little bit of hormone behind. As women pick up each other's hormones, their bodies start to sink.

It's just another one of the amazing miracles of being a woman......plus, when we're out together it's easier! More frequent loo trips + more friends to go to the 'ladies' with = more chat and gossip about you guys! lol

I think this is one of those things that is an unsolved mystery. It happens, but no one's entirely sure why. There are theories involving hormones and pheromones, but no solid reasons.

I don't know how, but it definately happens. I have had a lot of different female flat mates and it's mad how in tune our cycles became.
