Put that in equation, it is algebra time.

(3 * x) + 32 = (4 * x) - 15

Now we resolve... add 15 both sides (and -15 + 15 is of cource zero, as they cancel each other) and substract 3x both sides as well, so you have

32 + 15 = 4x - 3x
47 = x

That is your number: 47

3x + 32= 4x -15
-3x = -3x
32= 1x -15
+15 +15
47= 1x
1= 1
47 = x

So as worked in the problem x should equal 47

you cant solve by guessing. we dont know the number, so lets call it 'x'

3 times a number increased by 32 = 3x+32
4 times a number decreased by 15 = 4x-15

set the two equal to each other

3x+32=4x-15
subtract 32 from both sides and you get; (you want to get 'x' by itself)

3x=4x-47

subtract 4x from both sides and you get

-1x = -47

divide both sides by -1 and get

x=47

to check , replace x in the original equation with 47

3x+32=4x-15
3(47)+32 = 4(47)-15
141+32 = 188-15
173 = 173

Let the number be 'x'
3x + 32 = 4x - 15
3x = 4x - 15 - 32
3x = 4x - 47
3x - 4x = -47
-x = -47
x = 47
The number is 47
