No, you can't upgrade an existing USB port to be faster that it already is, you need to add entirely new ports using something like your sadly knacked PCMCIA slot.

Sorry, Don. It sounds like you're jiggered. As others have correctly pointed out, you can't upgrade the USB 1.0 ports to USB 2.0. The only way to do it is via your PCMCIA slot.

no... the only option would be to buy a new laptop... take it you need usb 2 for swapping masses of info between your laptop and external hdd?? If not then there's not much point anyways!
