My g/f is from Guatemala but cannot leave the U.S. due to her immigration papers in process. Would I be a dick if I went alone just to check out her country? Is it dangerous to travel solo around Guatemala?

You would be a jerk to go without her, unless she is okay with you going. As for safety, use common sense. I've traveled there twice and loved it, but you do have to be careful where you go. I have the advantage of traveling with my wifes family who lives there. So I don't know what it would be like traveling alone, but only travel during the day and with a group if possible. If you look around and don't see anyone that would be a robbery victim, you're it. Just Kidding. That being said, I've spent over a month down there over the last 2 years and never had a problem and I've been in some shady, and I mean shady, areas, lol. If you go, go in Jan or Feb, the weather is beautiful and it's not the rainy season where mudslides occur and block the roads (this is very common in the summer). Whatever you do, get out of the city first and DO NOT RIDE THE CHICKEN BUSES (colorful mass transit buses).

Is she is cool with it, it should be fine. Bring up the possibility to her and get her initial reaction. Tell her about how you want to check out the beauty of the country where your beauty was born (hey, that's a good line.) It just might work!

well im from el salvador my country neighbors guatemala well safety... its safe though ive heard some of the indians there dont like visitors and they scare you away but i dont think they'll hurt you... your gf she wont like it in the sense that women down there if they see an american guy they usually throw themselves at you with the possibility that youll like them and maybe bring them here but u should assure her ofcourse and call her :) and behave...

f*Uck, i would be so mad. Think how many ppl she wants to see there and u will have more fun and meet more people if she comes with you. I mean that is her country and y'all have the chance of both going and u gonna leave her?
