Yes, I play Halo 2 all the time on my 360. However, it won't play if you don't have a 360 harddrive, and MAY not play if you don't connect to LIVE when you first try to play it.
In-order to get any of the old games to work for the first time, you need to be connected to the internet. Basically, the 360 tries to run the disk, discovers that it can't, and automatically goes online to look for a program that will "emulate" the game disk in the player.
It doesn't take long, and you only have to do it the first time you play it because it stores the emulation program on your harddrive after that. Personally, I brought my 360 into work, plugged it into the internet conneection, and put in game after game... Some worked, some didn't.
The link below is the official list of Xbox 1 titles that will work on the Xbox 360. This is where everyone looks to check this stuff, and Microsoft updates it every so often.
Also, at Gamestop, be sure to look for "BC" on the pricetage of the Xbox 1 new/used games.. those are games that are listed as Backwards compatible" on the Official list linked below.

Lets see one of the best selling games for the Xbox, Which made Frat-boys call them selves Hardcore gamers because they play 100 hours a month of Halo 2 Xbox live.

what do you think? 360 supports some old XBOX games, and Halo was a best-seller! Yes, support does exist out of the box (i think, I dont own a 360, but my friends told me this) THE XBOX 360 DOES NOT SUPPORT ALL OLD XBOX GAMES!!!
