For liability purposes. If some adult goes to the medicine cabinet and takes the only cough syrup and then goes and operates heavy equipment and that warning was not on there the company would be in a world of deep doo doo.

Once upon a time a man picked up his running lawn mower to trim his bushes - unfortunately it trimmed his fingers. He won the law suit because the lawn mower did not have instructions not to do that. So in the knee jerk reaction more warnings get added. There is also a chance that kids may be out there on quads, Barbie electric cars or what ever. So they are just covering their bases.

You know, those Tonka trucks can be pretty dangerous!!!! And I hate it when my 2-year-old takes my car!! Seriously, it's a legal thing - the manufacturers are covering their rear ends from law suits, just in case someone who is older takes the medicine. Not all consumers are as intelligent as you might be.

Six. But because the cough medicine companies don't know which six children it is, they have to put the warning on every stinking bottle.

haven't you ever gone grocery shopping with your kids and are hopped up on pills or booze and had to get them to drive you home..why should a little cough syrup get in your way..it's not like they even have a licence to become suspended...its the smart thing to do...

So if adults use it or anything, the company can't get sued. That's why even coffee cups, even though it seems silly, say caution: very hot. People can sue for just about anything, so it's just a precaution that they use.

Cause adults take the meds too and I think its mandated by law that that message be put on all meds that can cause drowsiness regardless of who the meds are targeted for
