There is a remedy called Formalin-3 that is sold at fish stores. You can put it in the water, use it as a dip or take the fish out and apply it manually to the "thing." Whichever you do, follow the directions on the bottle.

You know that the violet goby is a brackish water fish, right?

Oh, BTW, IT IS NOT ICK, ICH OR ITCH!!! Some people think that everything that happens to a fish is ick....jeez!

you are able to no longer do brackish with plecos as others have pronounced. i might say a 20 gallon is somewhat on the small side for the Violet Goby, they get somewhat long, regularly over 10"-12", interior the wild they are able to upward thrust as much as around 24"!! they desire a sand substrate, brackish circumstances and proper water high quality besides as making the most of purpose feeding - shop offered fish are regularly starving. This fish could be greater useful off in a much better tank, around fifty 5 gallons or so.
