is experimental yield just the amount of the product that was left over (the residue)

i have 0.8 g of CuO left over, and the predicted amount was 0.72. we started out with 1 g of basic cupric carbonate...i dont understand how to figure this out

It's the percentage of the original solution that was left.
yield= (residue/original) *100

It's not always residue, keep that in mind, (it can be a solid, liquid, or gas)...it IS the product that was left over...well, the one the experiment wants you to look for and measure.

self explainatory, its what actrually came out of the experiment rather than the predicted amount
