80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

Hum, odd question.
Seriously?
well...
Maybe it's the finding out.
Or the finding it.
I personally think it's about knowing you know nothing, so knowing everything all the same. S'all good, even when it's all bad.
Maybe, the meaning of life is that we'll never know the meaning of life, and yet will still continue to search for it's definition.
Who knows? That's my meaning--- I mean, just like a bug only knows it's world (hell, it hardly even notices us) maybe we're all the same. Maybe there are things right in front of us; meanings, answers, epiphany's and what not, maybe there all in the spaces between and around us, but we're too small to see 'em.
Maybe we just aren't big enough, like bugs in our own world, to see the bigger picture.
Who knows, huh?

ponder this. there are hundreds of religions practiced currently on our planet. if you believe in evolution (which i do, not an atheist) then that means in the infinite amount of stars there would be hundreds of other intelligent races, in turn thousands of other religions. how do i know other intelligent races would have religions? the main factor that separated mammals from dinosaurs (again if you believe in evolution) is that mammals care for their young a great deal. this requires compassion on the mammals part. for another species to be as advanced as us then they would have to very maternal too. after searching for years i have concluded that religion is the greatest thing that has ever happened to us because it is the embodiment of hope. so if those other races were compassionate then it would only make sense that they would deavelope religions too. so if there are thousands upon thousands of religions what are the chances of one of those religions being completely correct and the rest being wrong. i think the meaning of life is to enjoy everything you can while you are here, partnership, childbearing, food, and all else physical, not to waste our entire life's trying to figure out what comes after. i say enjoy it while you can and whatever happens after happens.

No one will know for sure until the beginning in his afterlife. For now, we can only try to attain true goodness and pray that we are indeed working the meaning of life.

Life is a precious dream, where anything can happen. Our senses and feelings soar through the air, and maybe when we wake up from this "dream" we will feel our duty is complete.
