Well, I can tell you that bugs do not infest only dirty homes. My house is spotless, but we have our share of crickets, ants, silverfish, waterbugs (a type of roach,) and spiders. I hired Terminix to come and exterminate and it has been fine since.

Roaches and other insects come for a number of reasons. Food laying out, cracks in the floor or ceiling, and a dirty home can all be causes. I lived in New York for awhile, and I know their reputation for roaches. I am scared to death of bugs, and bought an herb from an Indian market in town. I have no idea what it was called, but it kept the bugs away the entire time I was there. Tell your friend to go to an Indian market and ask them about the herb. They might know what she is talking about.

Trouble with roaches is that they squeeze in through the smallest gaps under doors etc. Not easy to keep them out completely. If there is a basement area, that may well be where they're living. You could use and insecticide 'bomb' on the basement ones and hopefully kill of the nest, once the child and dog don't got into the basement, that is. Otherwise, invest in some roach motels of the type that feed the roaches something to take back to the nest and kill off the entire nest. In the kitchen, make sure all cereal packages are well sealed after use. Keep biscuits etc in sealed containers. Put any package mixes/soup mixes etc in storage containers - roaches love to chew their way into such packages. Unfortunately roaches will eat just about anything, including soap powder and soap, so it's a matter of removing things they may have already broken into, cleaning out all the kitchen cupboards and placing those bait stations where the kid and the dog can't get ahold of them and just keeping the roaches controlled that way.

Roaches will infest any place. Tell your friend to get Pest control soon! If she sees 3 roach there are more some where! With over 20 years experience in Pest control,I think I know what I'm talking about. Hint: If you do go over to her home be careful. Roaches will get into your purse and on your clothes. DO NOT bring anything from her place to yours, unless you want roaches.

Apartment houses are notorious for roaches as they will move from unit to unit no matter how clean...

If you live in a warm climate get some Gekko lizards and set them free in the house.. They will eat the roach eggs.. The adult roaches will die off and the problem will be solved.... Gekkos also eat spider eggs and other pest bug eggs so it's a bonus...

When I lived in an apartment in Arizona I got Gekkos (I payed my nephew $1.00 per lizard to catch 10) and set them free I never saw another roach or spider in the apartment.. About twice a year I would see baby gekkos for a day or so then they too would dissappear...

Suggest gekkos to your friend to solve the problem...

Roaches do like moist dark environments with food nearby, but don't necessary only go to dirty places, they have many ways of getting around and one of the more talked about ones lately is Movie Stars getting roaches and they travel inside the seams of grocery bags etc. so getting them can come from many different reasons and sources
Once when I was younger there was a fire next door and you could see the roaches running across the alley to our house. iiiiicccckkkk

If it's in an apartment building even if you keep your home spotless it could be from a dirty nieghbor moving out. By them leaving there source of food has left and they'll look for a new one. If ask your apartment manager to have an exterminator come out and put a gel bait out for the little buggers they should do it free of charge. Then you just have to make sure to take out your trash every night and no dirty dishes. Keep on that till you no longer see even one for a while.

I am not sure if you can get rid of them in an apartment building unless everyone in the building works with the exterminator but if you call your local exterminator they will be able to help your friend with the problem.

Boric acid, it is very effective when used properly for killing cockroaches and most other insects.
You can also get a house lizard, they are natural enemies and will eat them. More information at http://tinyurl.com/ofxkk
