Absolutely!!! I love my dog so much and I would do anything for her. People on the other hand--um, sorry, but they'll have to fend for themselves.

no.
i almost did, once.
driving by a house, saw children in the driveway screaming "help" etc...
made a u-turn.
was one of the first on the scene. (one other car had stopped already)
the second floor was pretty much totally engulfed.
the crying pre-teens were yelling that their dog was still inside. (and, by the way, their little brother.)
went to the porch door farthest from the flames (shooting out from the second story) and helped their old grandmother down the steps, while 2 guys went in calling the kid's name.
they came out in seconds, saying the next room was already turning black with heat/smoke.
they said they were going around the house (on the outside) to look in and see if they could see the kid, and call him out.
the grandmother was weeping, etc....
i started back into the room where the guys had come out (to call out to the kid/dog)
but, as i was going through the door into the smoky kitchen, i thought about my children....
1) what would happen to them, if something happened to me.
2) what a bad example i'd be making...doing exactly what i tell them not to do.
--turns out the dog had already gotten himself out, anyway.
--and, the kid had gone over to the neighbors place much earlier in the day, too.
all lives safe.
the house was a total loss.
fire cause: the girls had been burning a scented candle in their bedroom.
NEVER re-enter....

you only have time to escape...
"...in less than 30 seconds a small flame can get completely out of control and turn into a major fire..."

please don't teach your children that they should go into a burning building to get the family pets.
or that they should delay getting themselves out of a burning building, to look for a pet.

I had a similar situation occur... on vacation one time I got awoken by a girl from a neighboring bungalow.. She fell asleep with a cigarette in her hand and her place was on fire... She wanted help in getting her cats out... I opened the front door of the unit and a window blew out and parts of the ceiling were falling to the floor...
We tried crawling inside but the heat was too intense... She wanted to keep going but I pulled her out... She was upset and I literally had to throw her over my shoulder and carry her away..
Later the firemen said that most likely the cats were already dead from smoke inhalation before we tried to rescue them...
So, to answer your question... Yes I would make an attempt but will not risk my or another life to do it.

Well, fire is scary. It's hard to really know if I would do that, but I will say, that I love all animals, and especially MY two dogs. It would kill me to lose them in that way. I'm thinking that I would be at least try to save any dog.

I would if as Isis said it was my pet. Or if I am an animal activist(which I am) and last but not least if the mongrel belongs to some rich Hollywood actress. The hug of gratitude she would give me would more than compensate for the burns.

tThis happened to me! My BF notices a flicker in the window across the street. We checked it out and the house was on fire. Then I noticed the dog crying by the door. The fire had just stared to we broke in and got the dog out. That was one awesome experience!

I started to say - with the right gear - but if I thought I could get in there and get the dog without nasty harm to myself, I would do it - I love animals and it scares me to death to think of our pets being trapped that way
