"The name of this strange sounding phenomenon is "Couvade" and is derived from the French word 'Couver' which means 'To Hatch' in English.

Couvade comes in two forms. In one manifestation it is brought on by the expectant father through his own actions and is associated with a cultural ritual.

In the other form, symptoms arise in a psychosomatic manner (a physical disorder caused by emotional factors). This is the form that is usually found today in the western world and it is much more common than people think. As many as 80% of all expectant fathers will experience Couvade in some form or other."

Just lifted the above from paternityangels.com.
So yes it is a recognised syndrome and yes your partner can experience the same symptoms as you!!
Congratulations and good luck to both of you!

Silly as it sounds, men can get the same symptoms as their pregnant wife's. It is called 'sympathetic syndrome" there is another scientific name, but I am not sure what it is...that is the commonly used one that I have heard. Congrats on your pregnancy and I hope your husband gains a wonderful understanding of what you are going through :) Best wishes!

No you're not being silly, some men can experience the same sorts of things as women do during pregnancy. It's called a sympathetic pregnancy.

yes they can. its called sympothy pains. they can get the heart burn as my husband gain weight (my hubby gained 10 lbs) feel fatigued, get food craving, upset stomaches, even morning sickness, when i was in labor with my last baby my husband complained of a back ache that didnt go away till the day after the baby was born. so your question isnt really silly at all its normal and common. also your s/o must love you deeply and feel close to you to feel it. just wait till you feel like youve swollowed a whale and you cant tie your shoes cause you feel as big as a house.. when he tells you your bueatiful or so sexy he cant stop starring its cause it is true.... good luck

My husband always had symptoms like that but I think the worst one was the weight gain because he had a lot of cravings for chocolate, ice cream, waffles and pancakes which I found weird because I didn't crave any of that stuff.........Also right before I delivered my youngest baby, he said he wasn't feeling so good, to me he looked like he was about to faint......

It's called a sympathetic pregnancy, and it is very possible for a man to suffer pregnancy symptoms.
My man actually spent one morning throwing up with no logical reason, we found out a week later that I was pregnant!

I've heard that men can go through "sympathy pains" when their girl is pregnant. I don't know how it happens, but your husband is not alone in these crazy symptoms.

Yes they can, it's a recognised psychological syndrome called couvade, or in common speech, "a sympathetic pregnancy". It's a lot more common than people realise! This website goes into more detail: http://www.pregnancy.org/article.php?sid=1236.
