Actually studies show that cheerleaders are around the top of the list in being the most athletic in all sports. You have to be able to hold the weight of up to your 3rd to 4th lightest person in your group. Run, jump and bend. Therefore you are working Cardio, flexability and muscle fitness and all to a beat when many have no rhythm.

My webster pocket definition of sport is athletic game, fun or play. It says nothing of competition.

So to answer your question Yes.

And no I was not a cheerleader. I just like clearing misconceptions

Both my dtrs were cheerleaders. One went on to do competitive cheerleading. We were traveling all the time. It took a VERY big toll on her joints and hurt muscles. We always were wrapping one thing or another! Our doctor also knew her well from all the falls and sprains! She practiced 8 to 10 hours per week to ensure she was the best! All 28 girls on the squad did. We take this VERY serious. My son plays football and he worked out with her many times to increase his stamina. He said it was harder than the coach made him work out in practice. So yes it is a sport!!

yes i consider cheerleading a sport. you use your legs, arms, feet, hands, stomach, eyes, and most importantly your brain.Cheerlaeding is a very competitive sport. It is dangerous at some times when you do stunts of flips.Cheerleading can be fun too. it takes a lot of work.I don't think I've ever seen a cheerleader without a bruise scratch or have broken a part of their body.

A year ago I would have said no. My son is Special Needs and last year he joined a special needs cheer leading team. The company that he cheers for has 10 teams. At the first competition I was absolutely blown away by the athleticism, especially of the older teams, 18 years old.

Me too!! I consider anything a sport if you need energy and talent to do it. And you need both to cheer. I've never been a cheerleader, but it's fun.

No. I admit that it requires some degree of skill and athleticism, but at the end of the day, it is just an auxiliary to the real sporting event.
