Pshycologicaly, when you turn 18 (some of us at least) we feel powerful in our own selves. We think were on top of the world because we're finally an adult. Some people get caught up in this power and mistake it for superiority. They believe they are suddenly better then others. More then likely, these people your talking about are a little immature and insecure already like the girl said above

I don't think it has anything to do with age. Look at middle school and high school aged kids- now there are some harsh words. Those are the cruelest people I know- at least most adults are a tad more dignified about insults.

A ot of why peole put other people down is because of their insecurities...and this may be effected by age, because the older one gets, many times they get more secure with themselves. Also, as people get older have learned (hopefully) that putting others down doesn't help anyone!!

Those people who put other people down have a very low self-esteem, they want you to be like them and it is easier for them to put you down than accepting who they are. The problem you can't change them and the best thing is to stay away from this kind of person because they could ruin you inside and out. I experienced one.

Around that age you start to set up your own ideas of the world, you've also got a lot more built up anger and bitterness (as well as happinesses). I think it has to do with a lot more of the fact that you've developed a sense of insecurity with the world rather than when you were younger, and it's more of a dog-eat-dog world out there now.

ha yeah, I think its fine to insult your friends, but i wouldn't go up to a complete stranger or anything and insult them. But you know, your friends understand that your just playing around.
