It doesn't necessarily make you a bad person, but that depends on how you perceive the meaning of this word.
"I mean, she is going to die in a less than a year. so isn't that really sort of a waste of a Kidney,"
This statement does make you sound selfish and more than a little uncaring.
"I mean, if I'm young I'm going to be missing a kidney for the rest of my life, unless they could transfer it back to me."
While this statement shows the natural worries of every person. It's normal to feel like this, be concerned about yourself and become all self defensive. But if she is going to die in a year anyway, then... well, it is up to you. But one thing is certain: you should NEVER EVER thing this way: "it is a waste of a kidney.' No, it's not a waste. Every moment of our lives is precious, especially when it comes to someone so close to us. If you think the transfer would have negative consequence over you, you'd better not do it.
Like I said, it's entirely up to you. But don't worry, it doesn't make you a bad person. It's natural to be afraid for yourself, no matter how much you love your family.

I dont think it makes you a bad person unless your mom has expressed to you how wonderful and that it would be so great for you to give your kidney with her. My mom is my best friend in the whole world, but I'd think the same thoughts as you. It's not as easy as it seems. The reason I dont think you are bad is because I think my mom would consider my sacrifice as well, and so should yours. We'd have to really talk about it, the pros and the cons, what effects living with one kidney would have on the rest of my life, how she would try and make the best of her last year, etc. It should be a mutual decision for you both.

It sounds to me that you WOULD give a kidney to your mom, just as long doctors could assure you it holds NO health-risks for YOU in the long run, right??
No, I don't think you're a bad person, I think you're a very scared person tho.
And believe me : you're not the only one who has struggled with a problem like this, I'm sure the doctors told you that you should NOT donate your kidney out of fear for what people would say about you if you didn't, right? Cuz THAT would be giving your kidney for the wrong reason.
So you first will have to consider if you can live with the scary thought of having only ONE kidney for the rest of your life, should you go ahead with the donation, of course.
I assure you : you can live just as well on ONE kidney, as on two.....the only problem that could arise is if your remaining kidney starts failing you, either due to an accident, or to physical reasons. (how big is that chance, statistically seen?? Not too big, is the answer)
If you can to come to terms with the above question, and you would be willing to donate a kidney to your mom if it enabled your mom to live for many years to come....then the next question comes to order. (all IMHO, of course)
I THINK you should ask yourself if YOU would like someone to give you one of their kidney's....even tho it would be "just" for a year!!
HOW much is a year worth to you???
And HOW much do you think this extra year is worth for your mom??
You're in a very tough situation, I wish you, your mom and your family all the strength you need!

mmm... not a bad person... i think a selfish one though. You don't want to sacrifice a kidney for a year of life for the woman who brought you into this world??!! Think of all that she has given you, don't you want to be able to love her and live with her anymore? Even if it's only for awhile, I'm so sure it would mean the world to her. Think about it... there is never going to be anyone who loves you like your mother does, show her the same. If you thinking that a year of her life, love, and happiness is a waste; then you are very selfish.

I see your point, but having lost my mother last year I can tell you every day is precious, I definately would have given up anything for just one more day with her, unfortunately I had no such option to give a kidney you wil understand when you loose her. I dont think your a bad person but I do think if you didnt give up a kindey for her then you would reget it

Its up to you but I would give my mom a kidney. Its one more year you get to spend with her (she did give birth to you). if you don't and she dies you have no more time to spend with her but if you do you get another year and even if its just another year, you still get to spend time with her. Time is Precious.

So your question implies that your Mom's life is "really sort of a waste"? Then yes, it makes you bad.
