i dont know why, but in the german yahoo, where i com from, people just cannot distinguish between these two. who is the stupid one now?

legal
adj., adv. according to law, not in violation of law or anything related to the law.

legitimate
adj., adv1) legal, proper, real. 2) referring to a child born to parents who are married. A baby born to parents who are not married is illegitimate, but can be made legitimate (legitimatized) by the subsequent marriage of the parents. 3) v. to make proper and/or legal.

To me it depends..... on how you use it.....

Look them up at http://www.m-w.com/ (Meriam-Webster Dictionary). Then you will know for certain. Elsewise, we're talking about people who speak another language. Their meanings and translations aren't always the same as ours.
