is there anybody out there who actually listened to songs in the 80's like 'thriller' and 'good vibrations'? were they actually as popular as they seem to be? if you were a kid in the 80's, what were some of your favorite songs?

Yes they were. MJs Thriller album sold over 40 million records.

don't worry, you'll look back at the crap they are putting out today in 20 years with fondness and affection while your kids scoff at it as well.

If you really want to scare yourself, goto http://www.youtube.com and search for "Poison" and "Ratt". Now that's the kind of stuff you can only appreciate if you were making out and gettin some while your favorite mixtape was playing ;-)

I wasn't actually a kid anymore back then, but I very much liked "Thriller" (it had a great video-clip).

I absolutely loved, and still do : "Good vibrations".
IMHO the Beach Boys (esp. Brian Wilson) were superb composers.

And yes, they WERE popular songs back then.

How about "Turning Japanese" and "Mexican Radio"?

By about 1983, I was already sick of Michael Jackson. Good Vibrations was a joke, but hugely popular.

How about "Can't Touch This?" Very popular.
And "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice.
T'Pau "Heart & Soul" was huge where I live and all the Paula Abdul crap, too.

I Love Rock N Roll by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
Safety Dance by Men Without Hats
Foolin' by Def Leppard
Rock of Ages by Def Leppard
White Lines by Grandmaster Flash
and the list goes on and on and on and on...........

The songs you mentioned were really popular at the skating rink.

Yep, all that was popular. And when your 30 something and someone asks you the same thing you'll feel a bit taken back also. The 80's was a very clean, wholesome generation based on fun, goofy styles (which weren't goofy at the time) and music. Rap was for breakdancing battles and not for shooting it out battles. Rock was fun, not offensive and I could moon walk HEEHEEEE

Excellent music. Its cool cause nearly my entire school listens to 80s music without going all out on the style, if you know what I mean.
